FC Bayern München did not win the third match after determining the title: On the 34th match day in the Bundesliga, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team received no more than 2: 2 (2: 1) at VfL Wolfsburg.
Josip Stanisic (17 ‘) and Robert Lewandowski (40’) gave FC Bayern a 2-0 lead before Jonas Wind (45 ‘) and Max Kruse (58’) equalized. In the last two match days there was a defeat in FSV Mainz 05 and a draw against VfB Stuttgart.
Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed before the kick-off that Lewandowski does not want to extend his contract with the record champions, which runs until 2023. However, Salihamidzic ruled out the striker’s premature departure. However, the Pole himself suggested the opposite after the 2-2 victory against VfL Wolfsburg: “It is very possible that this was my last match for Bayern.”
With a total of 35 goals this season, Lewandowski secured the top scorer for the fifth time in a row and for the seventh time overall ahead of Patrick Schick (Leverkusen / 24) and Erling Haaland (BVB / 22).
Goalkeeper Christian Früchtl, meanwhile, made his professional debut for FC Bayern in Wolfsburg: Nagelsmann came on for captain Manuel Neuer in the final stages.
Wolfsburg – Bayern: The votes
Florian Kohfeldt (coach of VfL Wolfsburg): “After a disappointing season, it was a decent to good finish. In the second half, we played a really good game for a long time. In the end, we were not quite able to keep our level, but winning the point was not undeserved.”
Julian Nagelsmann (Bayern Munich coach): “The first 45 minutes were the best in the second half of the season. In the second half we practically begged for the equalizer. There is nothing more to say about Robert Lewandowski than that he still has a contract until 2023.”
VfL Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich: Analyzes
FC Bayern played in defense with the “three-and-a-half-chain”, which was known from the first half of the season: left-back Davies moved up extremely when he had the ball and gave Musiala the opportunity to move into the middle next to Müller. Because a lot went to the left, Gnabry was often free on the other side and was sought after with long side changes.
The system worked, FC Bayern combined in different ways and quickly created good chances. Stanisic scored the deserved 1-0, Musialas assumed 2-0 rightly did not count due to an offside position (24 ‘). But the hosts, who were initially inferior, also had chances, especially after posts like Lacroix ‘goal from behind (14’).
From the middle of the first half, Wolfsburg became a little more active, making the game more open. This was also reflected in the two goals from Lewandowski and Wind shortly before the break.
After the break, Wolfsburg were at times even the more dangerous team, and Kruse gave the hosts a well-deserved equalizer. FC Bayern made too many mistakes in the defense and lacked ideas in the offensive. Only in the final phase did the guests again become more determined – in 88. Sane awarded Casteels free-standing.

Data for the game VfL Wolfsburg vs. FC Bayern Munich
- Porte: 0-1 Stanisic (17 ‘), 0-2 Lewandowski (40’), 1-2 Wind (45 ‘), 2-2 Kruse (58’)
Game star: Max Kruse (VfL Wolfsburg)
Kruse was the key man in Wolfsburg’s comeback. He prepared 1: 2 and scored himself 2: 2. It was also strong how he kept controlling and holding the ball.
Match flop: Lucas Hernandez (Bayern)
Hernandez was involved in both conceded goals: at 1: 2 he slipped, at 2: 2 he let the goal scorer Kruse escape.
Judge: Robert Hartmann
Hartmann rightly rejected Musialas’ supposed 2-0 victory. Davies, who was offside, had prevented goalkeeper Casteels from shooting. Otherwise, the referee kept himself comfortable in the background.
