Barça sell Coutinho for DKK 20 million

The Brazilian national team player Philippe Coutinho changes from FC Barcelona to Aston Villa for 20 million euros after just over five months. The former Bayern professional, who had been loaned out to the English since early January, signed a contract until 2026. The deal represents a huge transfer deficit for the Catalans, who once transferred £ 135m to Liverpool FC for Coutinho. But it was more important for Barça to get the playmaker out of the payroll. The heavily indebted club will have to cut the budget if it wants to bring in new players.

World Cup hotels in Qatar reject homosexuals

It is probably not far from the openness of World Cup host Qatar that FIFA has relied on. Several of the official World Cup hotels reject gay guests or at least have strong reservations about their accommodation. It shows studies conducted by the Norwegian TV station NRK with DR and SVT from Denmark and Sweden. For the three TV companies, journalists pretended to be an allegedly married gay couple from Sweden or Norway and asked for accommodation for their “honeymoon”, regardless of the World Cup. Three of the 69 contacted hotels openly replied that they would not accept the couple. It was once said that this was not possible “according to our hotel policy”.

Of the hotels contacted, 20 made clear reservations and told guests not to present themselves as gay. It was also pointed out that the police had already previously taken gay Qataris out of the hotel. 33 accommodations had no objections, 13 did not respond or are currently only available as quarantine hotels. “This is obviously not acceptable and does not correspond to what the World Cup OC promised,” said Norwegian Federal President Lise Klaveness. The Danish association was “disappointed” and formulated the “clear expectation” of a solution.

Fifa commented on the research findings with a general statement. We are “confident that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure that LGBTQI fans and others can enjoy the tournament in a welcoming and safe manner”. Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar and can be punished with up to seven years in prison. Under Islamic law, whipping and the death penalty are possible, but according to various human rights organizations, the latter has not yet been implemented.

Frankfurt is planning to apply for the Europa Cup final

The city of Frankfurt is apparently planning an application for the final of the Europa League in 2026. “After the European Championships in 2024, we want to bring this further sporting highlight to Frankfurt,” said sports director Mike Josef (SPD) from “Bild”. One reason for the application is Eintracht Frankfurt’s performance this season on the international stage. “Europa League and Eintracht, it’s pure emotion. Our fans, the club and our city now deserve to see a Europa League final at their own stadium,” said Josef: “There can be no better publicity than our fans and the team in in recent weeks. “

Hannover gets Regensburgs Besuschkow

Jahn Regensburg will have to do without midfielder Max Besuschkow next season. As the second division club announced, the 24-year-old will not extend his expiring contract and will instead switch to league rivals Hannover 96. The Lower Saxony team will be coached by current Greuther-Fürth coach Stefan Leitl from next season. Former U-19 international Besuschkow joined Jahn in 2019 and played a total of 102 competitive matches for Upper Palatinate. He scored 16 goals and prepared seven goals.

Genuine with a rout against rear light

Real Madrid are still in goal mood after winning their 35th championship in Spain. The Champions League finalists easily won 6-0 (4-0) over bottom-placed UD Levante. Ferland Mendy (13th), Karim Benzema (19th), Rodrygo (34th) and Vinicius Junior (45th, 68th, 83rd) gave coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team the goal festival. In the race for international business, Real Sociedad San Sebastian scored points with a 3-0 (1-0) victory over FC Cadiz and FC Villarreal with a 5-1 (4-1) victory over Rayo Vallecano.

BVB veteran Schmelzer ends his career

Dortmund veteran Marcel Schmelzer is ending his career. The former national team player stops after this season, as the 34-year-old said in a video on Instagram. “Unfortunately, injuries have thrown me back again and again in the last two years. In this context, I would like to thank BVB for allowing me to complete my rehabilitation here again. I do not know what’s coming yet. But I look forward to the challenges, “said Schmelzer, who said goodbye to Hertha BSC on Saturday at the season finale (15:30 / Sky).

In 2005, Schmelzer switched from the youth team of 1. FC Magdeburg to the Dortmund U19 team. The central defender played 367 competitive matches for Borussia and has won two German championships and three trophies with BVB since 2008. In 2009, he won European Championship gold with the U21 national team. In November 2010, he made his debut on the German national team, where he played a total of 16 international matches. Schmelzer last played for BVB on 17 June 2020.
