As soon as Boris Becker has served his time in prison, he is a free man when his probation expires. You could at least think so. But things can change for him then. Following the verdict for the tennis star, the next damper follows.

Imprisoned Boris Becker risks being deported from the UK after serving his sentence, the “Daily Mail” reported on Thursday.

Boris Becker may not be allowed to go home after jail

The three-time Wimbledon champion is currently being held at HMP Wandsworth Prison, just 3 miles from Center Court – the main tennis court at the Wimbledon Championships in London. He was sentenced to 2.5 years for postponing bankruptcy, half of which he can serve on probation. However, it is doubtful whether he can subsequently return to his apartment in London.

The legal situation in the UK can get in the way: According to the Interior Ministry, foreign nationals who are to serve a prison sentence of more than 12 months are often deported “at the earliest time”. The reason: It serves the “common good”. Becker must serve at least half of his sentence in prison before he can apply for parole. The minimum detention of 12 months would thus be exceeded.

He repeatedly sweated the application for naturalization

Should Becker actually be deported, it should be a deep blow to the star’s stomach. He has lived in West London since 2012. He can now regret that he has never applied for naturalization before. Particularly bitter: In the past, the tennis legend had repeatedly announced that he would apply. First time seven years ago.

Becker’s attorney still has the opportunity to appeal the verdict. Until that happens and a court rules on such a possible application, Becker would have to remain in custody.

Boris Becker is facing a dark time

At the moment, however, his biggest problem may be surviving his time in prison. New inmates admitted to Wandsworth Prison are required to remain in the prison ‘detention block’ for seven to 10 days after arrival due to ongoing Covid restrictions. Then Becker can be transferred to the normal wing.

It will take at least six weeks before Becker can at least do meaningful work in prison, according to the Daily Mail. New inmates must behave well during this time before they can be considered for e.g. occupation.

Wandsworth is also a remand prison where offenders are only temporarily detained. Most will later be moved to another location. It is therefore unlikely that Becker will serve his entire prison sentence there. Since he has not committed any violent offenses, the tennis legend is likely to be transferred to a ‘softer’ prison with fewer security measures in the coming months.

More than a year later, the trained cosmetologist and the farmer are still together. On her anniversary, Patrick raved on Instagram: “If I only think about what we were able to experience within a year, how many ups and downs we have overcome. It all welded us together and I look forward to many more moments with you. “
