Tennis in a netball club :: Netball club teams put a successful start to the season on the ashes – the first women defeat TC Rheinstadion in an away duel

Velbert, May 9, 2022. The starting signal is given: The Medenspiel season 2022 was announced for 22 teams from the netball club last weekend.

As the highest registered team, the NBV women in the Niederrheinligaen played an outdoor duel at TC Rheinstadion. In first place, Cindy Burger from the Netherlands earned a point for NBV against her compatriot Olga Kalyuzhnaya with a clear 6: 0, 6: 4 victory.
Anna Schubries also achieved high victories with 6: 3. 6-2, Bernice van de Velde 6-2, 6-2 and Lauren Wagenaar 6-3, 6-0.

Ana Sovilj narrowly lost in the tie break of the match with 6: 7, 6: 4 and 4:10. Evelyn Altmeier lost 1: 6, 1: 6.
In the doubles, the NBV ladies did the exciting thing again. Burger and van de Velde first had to work hard to win the missing victory point by 6: 1, 2: 6 and 10: 4. The other two NBV doubles went to TC Rheinstadion for an overall victory of 5: 4 to the NBV women.

The first NBV men were allowed to welcome the renowned Rochusclub Düsseldorf am Kostenberg to the season’s first match in the first league. Netball player Tom Tillger switched to the Bundesliga club last year, but returned this season. However, Tillger still plays for his college team in the US and will only be back in action for your NBV as number one in the next few weeks.

Only Mark Joachim in second place with 7: 5, 4: 6 and 10: 7 and Tim van den Dijssel in fourth place with 6: 1, 6: 2 were able to score against the Düsseldorf team. Immediately afterwards, Oliver Bodenröder fought a very close battle and lost only narrowly 6: 7, 7: 5 and 2:10. Louis Kaun, Fyn and Nick Franke each lost in two sets, 2: 4 behind.

In the first double, Düsseldorf then scored a clear victory point 6: 1, 6: 0 against Kaun and Joachim. In the other two doubles, however, the Netzball players again showed their will to win and their fighting strength: Fyn Franke won with Bodenröder 3: 6, 7: 6 and 10: 6 and van den Dijssel with Nick Franke 6: 7, 6: 4 and 12:10 to 4: 5 end result.

Despite the onset of darkness, the players did not have to stop the very long doubles: “For the first time, our new modern LED projector system from the netball club was used under competitive conditions and ensured daylight visibility,” says NBV chairman Bernd Wolf.

The second men’s team in the netball club, which plays in the district league, has been formed from scratch. Austrian Manfred Ziegler, who has been part of Mark Joachim’s coaching staff since the winter season, is now leading the team here. However, he lost to his opponent in the home game against Leichlinger TV 4: 6, 3: 6. All other matches went to the netball club’s account for an overall victory of 8: 1.

For the very first time, the NBV top talent Ilian Mechbal was used on the men’s team. The 12-year-old turns 13 this year and can now also play with the adults. Ilian is currently the third best player in the U14 age group in Germany and belongs to the German national team U14. In third place, Ilian won over 19-year-old Maximilian Maurer 6: 4, 6: 3.

In the doubles round, Ilian then played in the first doubles match with 26-year-old Laurin Knoke, who has served for NBV since this season. Together, the two won 6: 1 and 6: 2 and also had a lot of fun in their match.

One of the youngest NBV teams has just picked up the highest victory: the U12 girls won away at Stadtwald Hilden 6-0 in the district league. Marlen Höfner won first place 6: 0, 6: 0, Lisa Bischoff won 6: 0, 6: 1, Amelie Schumacher 7: 5, 6: 2 and Emma Groß 6: 2, 6: 4. Höfner and Schumacher won the first double with 6: 0, 6: 0 and Bischoff with Groß won the second double with 6: 1, 6: 2 for a victory of 6: 0.

Next Saturday, the NBV women can play their first home game at Kostenberg: They start at 1 pm against Blau Schwarz Düsseldorf, and an hour later the first men also play against TC Bredeney.
Spectators are welcome and can also watch the matches from the terrace of Anna and Domenico’s NBV gastronomy with a cool drink.
