Schalke: This is how Saturday goes until the promotion final

Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke 04 can make their return to the Bundesliga perfect on Saturday 7 May. This is how the day goes for professionals, fans, fire brigade and police.

It could already be this Saturday: FC Schalke 04 get the chance to return to the Bundesliga after just one year. The prerequisite is a victory in the season’s last home game against FC St Pauli (20.30 / Sport 1 and Sky). This was made possible by the competitor Darmstadt 98’s 1: 2 slip in the NRW district near Fortuna Düsseldorf.

But how does the possible promotion day go in Gelsenkirchen?

Schalke fans

There are no special fan campaigns planned for the match – Schalke approached the planning of the weekend with humility and did not want to suggest that they expected Darmstadt 98 to slip up. The box office does not open, Veltins Arena has long been sold out, more than 62,000 visitors come, of which about 6,000 FC St. Pauli supporters. It is not recommended to arrive without a ticket. Nevertheless, it is of course to be expected that Gelsenkirchen’s pubs will be much fuller than usual before the match – and traffic in the city will collapse when Schalke 22:20 must be confirmed as a climber.

Many fans are likely to arrive much earlier. As usual, Bogestra uses special trams, the police should recommend not only using the “Gelsenkirchen-Buer” exit on the A2 motorway, but also the “Herten” exit.

Police, fire department and city are prepared

The police, fire brigade and the municipal security service (KOD) have coordinated. “The police are at the football match between FC Schalke 04 and FC St. Pauli with sufficient forces on the spot,” said Gelsenkirchen’s police headquarters. The possible promotion to the Bundesliga and the resulting festivities were included in the operational planning. A 14-man team of professional and volunteer firefighters assumes the fire department, while 70 others support the medical service. Three emergency physicians are ready. KOD has announced that they will intensify its patrols throughout the city.

Schalke professionals

After the last training on Friday, the professionals retired to their team hotel and spent the night there in peace. According to the coach after breakfast together Mike Buskens a “small activation” planned to bridge the long time until kick-off. This means that the team goes for long walks or does light training on the grass.

After lunch, the professionals retire to their rooms for a dinner break. Communication from the players via social networks is not to be expected, Schalke had already canceled all interview appointments during the week so as not to disturb the game preparation. After drinking coffee together and the last one-on-one conversations, we take the bus to the Arena around noon. It must be expected that the bus will hardly arrive at Arenaringen.

No promotion party is planned within the team, decisions will be made spontaneously. Expect a long celebration with the fans on the pitch, followed by an intern in a VIP room in the arena. They meet there anyway after every match.

Eurofighter is there – program before the match

Almost all the players in the Eurofighter squad that won the Uefa Cup in 1997 are guests in the arena for the silver anniversary. The players around Marc Wilmots and Century Coach Hub Stevens will be met on the field before the match. Two will then be missing: Captain Olaf Thon (Corona) and Mike Buskens, which prepares the professionals for St. The Pauli game. S04 fans will sing the anthem from 1997: “We beat Roda, we beat Trabzon, we beat Bruges, Valencia, Tenerife, Inter Milan anyway, it was a show.”

Weather forecast for Gelsenkirchen

Jackets are not necessary, warn warm 20 degrees – however, it should remain predominantly cloudy, even occasional drizzle is not excluded.

The TV show

If you did not get a ticket, you can watch the match on TV in two ways – Sport 1 broadcasts on free TV and Sky on pay-TV. Olaf Thon was to accompany the game live as a co-commentator for Sport 1 – it has been canceled now.
