Meppen-Würzburg 2: 4 | Kickers win with morale

One day after the relegation from the 3rd division, Würzburger showed Kickers morale with a 4-2 victory over SV Meppen and extended the Emslanders’ negative streak further. With two goals each, Kopacz and Pourié played a major role in SVM still having to wait for their first home win despite leading twice in 2022.

Meppen’s coach Rico Schmitt mixed his eleven compared to a 1-1 draw in Viktoria Cologne and brought in five new players: Al-Hazaimeh, Fedl, Jesgarzewski, Hemlein and Feigenspan started instead of Puttkammer, Bünning, Dombrowka, Faßbender and Guder.

Kickers coach Ralf Santelli, on the other hand, let the eleven who had recently won 3-0 at home against Viktoria Berlin play.

Meppen got off to a good start and took the lead after just ten minutes after Herrmann checked Harsman on the other side (5th). A high pass from midfield was headed in by Hemlein over Bonmann for 1-0. But Würzburg had the right answer ready. Kopacz was only unfairly separated from the ball by Käuper in the penalty area, and Sané converted the penalty safely into 1-1 (15 ‘).

As a result, a duel developed at eye level, with Meppen’s back team repeatedly making mistakes, but these could not be converted into chances or counted by the Würzburg team. In the best guest scene, Jesgarzewski managed Sané’s run, but his shot just missed the target (43 ‘). The home team’s offensive play seemed sluggish and hardly caused any problems for the Kickers. Out of nowhere, SVM took the lead again before the break: Ametov used a rebound and pressed in to 2-1 to Meppen (45 + 1).

The Schmitt elf came out of the break better, increased the pressure and pace and appeared again and again in front of Bonmann – but it was not really dangerous. Instead, the Kickers equalized again with a fine move. Stefaniak had an eye for Kopacz, who hung on the edge of the penalty area to Schneider and made it 2-2 (59 ‘)!

The relegation zone continued to show morale, putting pressure on Meppen and finally turning the match around after 68 minutes. After a one-two with Pourié, Maximilian Breunig, who came on the field seven minutes earlier, slid the ball past Harsman to 3-2 and set the course for the Franks to win. For in the final phase, Pourié, who had scored in all his matches against Meppen so far, followed up. His shot from a sharp angle slid through Harsman’s hangers and toppled over the line to 2-4 (81 ‘).
