Judge Taylor to Becker: “I could sentence you to 18 months for any of the offenses you have been convicted of!” Hard words! Taylor continued: “Fraud, tax evasion and money laundering: you have lost everything. But they have not shown any remorse. They have been humiliated by it, but they have not shown humility.”

The main claim: Becker himself decided which debtors he served in his bankruptcy. “He’s not entitled to that,” Taylor said.

Before that, Becker’s lawyer Jonathan Laidlaw had tried everything again to get a milder sentence. Described Becker’s dramatic situation. “He has virtually nothing left. The Becker brand is in tatters!” What a bitter bankruptcy statement! In his career between 1984 and 1999, Becker earned about $ 25 million in prize money.

But it did not help! Following the verdict, Becker seized his packed bag, which he had bought the day before in the luxury department store “Harrods”. Becker was taken away – apparently to Wandsworth Prison in London. He stays there until a jail is chosen, where he will serve his sentence. With good behavior, Becker has the chance to be released after a year and three months.
