- Now that Bayern have secured the championship, Julian Nagelsmann will give the talent a chance.
- The coach describes Paul Wanner, Gabriel Vidovic and Malik Tillman as “excellent talents”.
- In principle, Nagelsmann still expects full commitment from all players, “because we simply make a lot of money”.
FC Bayern Munich has already secured the German championship. Nevertheless, the record champions still have to play three games this season.
The away match at 1. FSV Mainz 05 is on Saturday. The following week, on Sunday, the match against VfB Stuttgart will be the last home match of the season before the end of the season in VfL Wolfsburg on 14 May with the presentation of the championship trophy.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann does not want to let the remaining three games downplay lightly. He would rather use this phase of the season in perspective: “The season is not over yet. I see a chance that many young talents can get some playing time.”
So that means: The end of the season in FC Bayern will be a show for the young contract players who can recommend themselves for more appearances in the coming season. “We have excellent talent in Paul Wanner and Gabriel Vidovic, so does Malik Tillman,” said Nagelsmann.
Wanner is the youngest German champion ever
In January, Wanner became not only the youngest Bayern debutant of all time. With his 16 years and 121 days, he is also the youngest player to ever become German champion. The offensive midfielder has made four Bundesliga appearances this season and has a long-term contract with the record champions – according to “transfermarkt.de” even until 2027.
Vidovic made his Bundesliga debut against Arminia Bielefeld on 17 April. With 18 goals, the 18-year-old attacking player is the top scorer on FC Bayern’s second team in the Regionalliga Bayern. The 19-year-old offensive midfielder Tillman had four appearances in the Bundesliga and two in the Champions League. Both are also under a long-term contract with FC Bayern and should be promoted.
According to Nagelsmann, 19-year-old center-back Tanguy Nianzou and 22-year-old right-back Josip Stanisic should also be given additional options. Defensive midfielder Marc Roca and striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, aged 25 and 33 respectively, are among the more experienced players, but should also be compensated for the relatively few games played so far at the end of the season.
“We have a couple of players who could have accumulated more playing time. Of course, I would also reward them for their diligence with the small playing time,” promises Nagelsmann.
Nagelsmann demands points and goals
Still, winning is a priority. “We will not put up with nine players who do not have a rhythm. We want to finish the season well, still get points and ideally score a few goals,” said Nagelsmann.
Everything else forbids the idea of competition alone. For FC Bayern, it may not be about anything more, but it is for the opponents. VfB Stuttgart is number 16 in the middle of a relegation battle. And VfL Wolfsburg is also not mathematically sure of staying up (as of April 27). And for Mainz, it’s still about the place in the table and thus the amount of TV money.
Nagelsmann expects maximum commitment not only from the talents but also from the established players: “I certainly do not earn badly. And I think one or the other player earns a little better. We do not do volunteer work. We get a lot of money that we performs well. And the spectators pay a lot of money for tickets to watch a proper match. “
So the question does not arise whether you are in the mood or not: “We are in the mood to be there because we are simply making a lot of money.”
